About Us

History

Avinet, Inc. was founded in Dryden, New York in August 1987. The first owners of Avinet spearheaded the first US-made mist nets available on the market to permitted biologists, as well as providing a wide selection of equipment to field biologists, supplying to universities, federal and state wildlife offices, consultants, and more.

In November of 2016, Avinet was purchased by the non-profit member organization, Association of Field Ornithologists (AFO), and moved all business and mist net production operations from Dryden, New York, to Portland, Maine in March 2017 under the management of Biodiversity Research Institute (BRI). AFO and BRI are pleased to continue the work of Avinet, providing the highest quality mist nets and field equipment to biologists, ecologists, and "wildlifers" everywhere. As of December 2017, we have merged AFO's existing Avian Research Supplies business with Avinet operations, inventory, and website. Our new name is Avinet Research Supplies (ARS).

The mission of our business is to provide the bird and bat researchers with the highest quality research equipment and supplies in the world while ensuring their legal and ethical use. Our goal is to effectively serve the research community and to aid in conservation efforts that align with the mission of Association of Field Ornithologists (AFO).
